In this general dermatology case discussion, we look at an eight-year-old girl who presents with widespread eczema involving trunk, groin, arms, and legs for several months.
She has been prescribed Advantan fatty ointment and Zyrtec by her GP, with occasional use of emollients by her parents.
What is your treatment plan for this patient?
Update: Dr Dianne King's management plan
- Examination: typical eczema associated with punched out erosions on legs
- eczema herpeticum - No staph crusting - swab taken grew staph sensitive to Flucloxacillin and Keflex
- Started on Keflex 250 mg bd
- Changed to emollient ointment with ceramides
- Prescribed Elocon ointment (under occlusion where possible at night)
- Phenergan 25mg nocte and Famvir 250 mg bd
