    Build the clinical expertise to deliver evidence-based, patient-centred mental health care within general practice, recognising GPs as the primary point of contact for people experiencing psychological distress.

    By completing the Core Module and Clinical Enhancement Module in Mental Health, participants qualify for MBS items 2715 and 2717 (or equivalent item numbers for non-VR GPs).

    The Professional Certificate of Mental Health is recognised as professional development for practitioners who have completed their mental health training. The Core Module and Clinical Enhancement Module are also part of the Professional Certificate, so practitioners completing the Professional Certificate will also meet the requirements for mental health MBS recognition.

    Entry requirements and course requisites

    This medical program is suitable for GPs, International Medical Graduates, nurse practitioners, and degree-qualified nurses.

    • No previous formal training is required for the Professional Certificate course.
    • Participants of the Advanced Certificate course must have successfully completed the Professional Certificate course or have equivalent qualifications.
    • In order to qualify for the Professional Diploma, participants must complete both certificate courses in sequential order.
    • There are no prerequisites for the Clinical Enhancement Module course unless undertaking the Modular Pathway for Mental Health Skills Training. In this case the prerequisite is the Core Module course.
    • Participants do not have to pass an IELTS test but, as the courses are delivered in English, proficiency in listening, reading and writing English is assumed.
    • Participants will require access to a computer/laptop, an internet connection and a basic level of technology proficiency to access and navigate the online learning portal.

    Course inclusions
