Burpengary East Medical Centre & Skin Cancer Clinic
offers comprehensive skin cancer and aesthetic services in a modern, purpose-built facility.
Led by Dr Raj Selvarajan, the experienced team provides early diagnosis and management of skin lesions, from initial skin examinations and monitoring through to surgical and non-surgical treatments.
Program outline
The clinical attachment program is designed to complement the online course component with immersive, real-world skin cancer clinic experience. Engage in clinical activities, medical services, and patient interactions under supervision, and experience first-hand the day-to-day operations of a skin cancer clinic.
You will be oriented to clinical workflows and introduced to tools such as electronic medical records, digital dermoscopy, and high-resolution skin imaging systems. A skills checklist and logbook is used to track progress and ensure standardised experience across
clinical attachments.
Choose from a 3-day clinical attachment to gain core skills, or a 5-day clinical attachment to build extended skills.

3-day clinical attachment
Core melanography skills
Learn to:

Confidently conduct total body photography and dermoscopic image capture

Identify and triage common skin lesions (without diagnosing)

Use dermoscopy tools safely under supervision

Educate patients on skin self-checks and follow-up care pathways

Follow clinical protocols in documentation, infection control, data handling and patient
privacy -
Observe lesion referrals, diagnostic processes, and clinical decision-making

5-day clinical attachment
Core melanography + Extended skills
Includes all core skills from 3-day program, plus learn to:

Perform Red Light Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) including patient prep and aftercare

Assist with Daylight Photodynamic Therapy (Daylight PDT), including patient education
and sunscreen use -
Operate Red Light LED panels for post-treatment recovery or acne management

Assist with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments under supervision, including skin
typing, test patching and cooling protocols -
Use radiofrequency technique to remove skin lesions

Understand consent, safety precautions, and post-care for light-based therapies
Program benefits
While online education offers strong foundational knowledge, many nurses and GPs lack the opportunity to gain practical clinical exposure in dermoscopy, total body photography, and patient communication. This clinical attachment opportunity addresses this need through a professionally managed, medically supervised, clinic-based placement.

This clinical attachment is open to graduates and current participants nearing completion of HealthCert Education's Melanography program. It is intended for nurses and GPs with an interest in skin cancer screening.

After completing his undergraduate medical training in India, Dr Raj Selvarajan moved to the United Kingdom in 1998 for postgraduate education. He became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS) in 2002 and later completed Vocational Training in General Practice, becoming a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP, UK) in 2004. In 2014, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). He has practised in both the UK and Australia across a wide range of procedural areas.
Important dates
Submit your application with your preferred dates at least one month prior to the program commencement date. HealthCert Education will contact the host facility to arrange your placement. You must commence the program within six months of your application being accepted.
Travel & stay
You are expected to independently organise and fund your travel and accommodation throughout the duration of the program. The hosting facility will provide daytime activities during normal business hours on weekdays only.

Certification & accreditation
For AHPRA-registered doctors, supervised clinical attachments qualify for Performance Review CPD hours.
- Must be a minimum of three contact hours.
- Review the guides and templates available from RACGP and ACRRM prior to commencing a Clinical Attachment to ensure you document all requirements for this self-submitted activity.
- HealthCert Education will provide a “Certificate of Clinical Attachment – Australia” to confirm completion.
