In this week's general dermatology case discussion, presented by Dr Dianne King, we look at an eight-year-old girl presenting with widespread eczema for several months.
Background
Her GP had prescribed a topical steroid and an antihistamine, used intermittently, but she is not improving. Her parents describe her as not sleeping and scratching constantly.
Examination
Examination shows multiple excoriations with yellow crusting on the arms and legs, dry scaly patches on the trunk, flexural involvement at the elbows and knees, and perioral changes.
The yellow crust is swabbed and sent for microscopy, culture and sensitivity. Staphylococcus aureus is grown, sensitive to both cephalexin and flucloxacillin.

What management plan would you recommend for this patient? Consider both treatment of the current flare and longer-term skin barrier care.
