Overview

"Palliative Care – Advanced" is a comprehensive course designed for healthcare professionals involved in managing patients in advanced stages of illness. This course covers a wide range of topics, including neurological, haematological, and dermatological symptoms, care in the last days of life, voluntary assisted dying, and carer support. Through evidence-based guidance and case discussions, participants will develop skills in symptom management, ethical considerations, and providing holistic care to both patients and their families.

Dr Valia Francis

Course Presenter; Clinical Audit Reviewer

Dr Francis enjoys all aspects of general practice and is especially interested in skin medicine, women's health and medicine of the elderly. Originally from Greece, Dr Francis is involved in teaching medical students as a Conjoint Lecturer in the Rural Medical School of Port Macquarie as well as teaching registrars. Dr Francis is a FRACGP, has a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor in Sciences (First class Honours in Neuroscience), Diploma in Child Health, Diploma of the Royal College Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Diploma of Family Planning & Sexual Health.

When not at work, Dr Francis tries to fight waves with surf or paddle boards, is training hard to become the next MasterChef winner, and enjoys reading books and learning new languages. She also enjoys long distance running and acquiring a masters in paleontology (special interest Jurassic and Mesozoic eras) thanks to 2 sons that are over invested in dinosaurs.
