For children with atopic dermatitis, it's often not the eczema itself that creates the biggest management challenge, but the infections that can follow when the skin barrier is compromised.

In this video, Dr Vincenzo Piccolo explores the infectious complications commonly associated with paediatric atopic dermatitis, including the role of Staphylococcus aureus, bacterial superinfection, and the clinical signs that may point to a worsening skin condition.

Designed for GPs managing eczema regularly in primary care, the discussion also touches on:

  • recognising when infection is likely contributing to a flare
  • differentiating limited from more extensive disease
  • when topical therapies may be sufficient
  • situations where systemic treatment should be considered
  • measures that may help reduce recurrence and colonisation

Dr Piccolo provides a concise clinical overview grounded in real-world dermatology practice, helping clinicians refine their approach to one of the most common inflammatory skin conditions seen in children.
