There is often an uptick in dermatological complaints during the winter months — and as a primary care practitioner, it is important you're prepared to deal with these skin concerns. In this short video, Skin Cancer & Aesthetic Medicine Doctor Dianne King shares the most common general dermatology presentations you are likely to encounter this winter.
Dr Dianne King is a GP with a special interest in medical aesthetics and skin cancer who built her own skin clinic in Hobart. In this video, she shares the most common GP dermatology presentations she sees in her practice every winter.
"During the winter months, it's common that many patients present with exacerbations of their skin conditions," says Dr King.
"From a dermatological perspective, a lot of patients find that in winter their skin dries out more, so often their eczema, rosacea, or acne exacerbates.
"With elderly patients, you see drying out in the legs, and ulceration can occur as their skin barrier becomes compromised.
"People also become slack with using sunscreen during winter, even though we can still get significant UV damage."
